9 Beautiful Website Preloaders

Websites always use Flash because they deliver amazing animated contents. Unfortunately, like all other good things, there is a downside to Flash – it takes time to load up and is not search engine friendly. As such, your site visitors will be sitting there waiting for your animation to play. They could patiently wait but they could also click on the X on the top right corner and move on to another website. After all, there are so many things to see on the World Wide Web, so why should they wait for your graphics to load?

Website preloaders

That’s what a website preloader is for. While waiting for the Flash or images to load, a preloader pops up, quickly grabbing the visitors’ attention. Put anything there to captivate the visitor enough so that he/she wouldn’t move away.

Let them know how many more seconds until the stuff loads, entertain them with cartoons (make sure they load easily!) or amuse them with quirky pictures or quotes. Whatever it is you decide on, get your developer to add a preloader to “greet” site visitors as they land on your website and wait for the “main course” to load. If you really have no idea what and how to amuse your visitors, get some ideas from my top 10 preloaders, in no particular order:

1. W. Brett Wilson

Beautiful preloader

With such a phrase “Please give me a moment to collect your thoughts”, how can you not be forgiven for the time taken for the Flash to load? Your site visitors are likely to stay and wait as they know that you understand their “predicament” and took effort to manage it.

2. Studio Mazaki

Studio mazaki preloader

One can’t help falling in love with that little black wide-eyed robot-like creature that stands above the percentage of animation loaded. The preloader is simple against a sweet violet background. The robot would be happy to greet visitors to a technology- or communcations-related website.

3. Drill Prealoder

Drill preloader

This preloader is a rather cute one. A hand drills goes into a hole in the ground as the counter indicates the percentage of loading that has taken place. The hand drill isn’t much used these days, that is probably the reason behind the fascination with this preloader. It is needless to say that this preloader would be perfect for those in the construction business.

4. Quake Quizs

One cannot help laughing seeing a man hunched over clutching his head, possibly in frustration or impatience from the time Flash has taken to load. The site visitors know that you acknowledge the hassle and empathize with them, so they will most likely just wait it out until the Flash reveals itself.

5. Frontier Room

This is another one that appeals to people’s lighter side. There is a pig on its back with all its legs in the air, accompanied by a slogan “Fetching the pig from its trailer“. While your website might not have anything to do with a pig, this preloader will nonetheless tickle your site visitors.

6. Zune Journey

Zune Journey preloader

Light peeks from behind a rectangular black object, reminding you of an eclipse of the sun. You can’t wait until the eclipse goes off to see the sun again. It is the same here; your site visitors anticipate something really interesting to appear at the end of the Flash loading and so they will wait because you have gotten their interest piqued.

This is a very nicely done flash preloader, I must admit!

7. DT Trust preloader

Beautiful pre-loader

There is just a little plant being watered by a watering can but the picture is cute, catchy and colourful; the colours used remind me of a pre-school colour pencil drawing. The growing plant signifies progress, just like the progress of the loading Flash.

8. Cool preloader

Cool preloader

Wouldn’t you feel calm already looking at this preloader? You’d probably wouldn’t mind waiting for the Flash to load as you stare at a little island of two coconut trees against a sun that displays the % loaded. The colour combo used reminds me of something from the 70s.

9. Elegant preloader

Elegant preloader

Making it to the list is this offering from identification05.com. It is one of the most beautiful preloaders around. It is not so clear what the creature at the middle of the preloader is doing but what really made me fall for this is the sharp contrast of colors against a black background – simply striking. Use this to impress your site visitors!

Pick whichever strikes your fancy but my favourite is “Quake Quizs” because it never fails to put a smile on my face seeing the man clutching his head in apparent frustration waiting for the page to load! Humour never fails and so, I suggest you to use it to amuse your site visitors too!
